Arabella turned the letter over several times, then clapped her hands to her face in excitement. Minerva was here... really here. Arabella hadn't seen Minerva McGonagall in several years, not since before Hogwarts fell to Death Eaters during the war. Arabella couldn't wait to see her old friend again. Fortunately she had made Minerva's owl wait for a response, which she wrote with a biro on the back of Minerva's letter.

Dear Minerva,

Nothing would make me happier than to share your fairy cakes at tea on Saturday afternoon. We have so much to catch up on. I'm living in a lovely little cottage south of the river, across from the animal shelter. Please let me know whether you've got a Floo, dearie. If so, I can just pop over that way; otherwise I shall need to know your address so I can walk to your home.

Fondly,

Arabella

Dear Arabella,

At the present time, alas, I do not have a floo. Although that might change before next week. I really need to contact Miss Edgecomb, who is in charge of the Ministry's Floo Regulation. But I've written my address at the bottom of this note, as well as directions. I do believe I know where you are, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find my home.

And Arabella -- the animal shelter? How soon will it be before you acquire a cat? Or 3? Or 5?

With fond amusement,
Minerva

Wilhelmina recognised Minerva's owl when it fluttered through the window. "Hello there," she murmured, scratching it under the chin and giving it a tiny corner of her toast.

She read the letter and smiled. She hadn't been to see Minerva in a while, and not at all since Pomona had returned. It would be good to catch up again. Perhaps she could even talk to Minerva about her desire to do something again - she was torn between applying for the Care of Magical Creatures position at the new school, or contacting the Ministry about her larger concerns.

But then Minerva didn't seem to be suggesting shop-talk over fairy cakes. Willa grinned.

"Mona?" she called. "Next Saturday afternoon, Minerva. Yes?"

Mona seemed very pleased by the suggestion.

My dears,

I must indeed apologize for the silence. I've been rather wrapped up in the recent emergency. But yes, the fairy cakes reminded me that it's been too long. I will see you on Saturday.

Irma took a look at the letter. A tea party? Well - she had been wanting to see her old friends more - and she did enjoy her tea.

Dear Minerva,

What a good idea. I will certainly make the effort to be there.

Sincerely,
Irma

Seti sat down at her secretary desk with a sigh. Nearly everything had been unpacked now, Julian and Gilderoy's gifts safely delivered, and finally she had a little breathing room to look around and see what was left to do. First on the list was the promised owl to Minnie.

She pulled open the front panel with the intention of fetching out parchment and quill and ink, but instead her eyes fell on a small envelope tucked inside the desk. Taking it up, she recognized the small, spidery handwriting of one Minnie McGonagall. How in the world...? An image of Julian's little house elves flitting around her flat on Friday night came to mind; one of them must have found the note and slipped it in here.

She tore open the outer parchment and quickly read the short invitation, smiling fondly at the thought of Minnie throwing a tea party. A glance at the date brought forth a sigh. Three days ago. Damn.

Grabbing necessary materials, she quickly sent off a reply.

Dear Seti,

I'm sorry that you missed it, but I do understand. It seems the longer the distance, the more disorienting a Portkey trip.

Why don't we get together next Tuesday evening? We can discuss the school, but also just catch up.

Fondly,
Minerva

Dear Minnie,

Tuesday evening sounds wonderful - I'll pop over around six, unless I hear otherwise from you. And do let me know if there's anything you'd like me to bring along.

Your friend,
Seti
