Summary: Caradoc inquires about publishing textbooks.
Completion: Complete

Caradoc had finished the editing The Young Witch and Wizard's Guide to Common Charms for British English and societal variations between the United States and United Kingdom. The first of the textbooks he had co-written with a colleague from Salem covered grades 7 and 8, or the 12-14 year old magical students in the United States. The British Edition would cover years 1 and 2, the 11-13 year olds, although it was likely to cover a larger age group until formal education was firmly re-established. Most of the magical schools in the United States had adopted the TYWWG series since its introduction as a replacement for The Standard Book of Spells series which had become increasingly obsolete and dated over the years. Unfortunately, some of the topics that were considered dated and obsolete in Miranda Goshawk's books in the U.S. were actually quite handy to know in England.

He felt that this editing process was a good one as it forced him to look at each spell and his syllabus all over again with fresh eyes, and the perspective of an English Wizard instead of an American. In the end, he made few obvious changes, but he did make a substantial number of substitutions. There was no need to teach an American version of a spell when many children had likely grown up seeing their parents using the English variety. Having some background knowledge always made learning and recalling spells easier. When he finally had a version he was happy with, he shipped two copies off to Salem for his original co-author and one copy each to the Conservatory, and the three other leading users of the American English version for peer review. He also needed to contact Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley as instructed by Minerva to arrange printing.

Dear Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley:

Headmistress Minerva McGonagall has directed me to you to obtain information regarding the printing of textbooks for the new school being restored here in town. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to sit down with one or both of you to discuss the matter. Please let me know what day and time work best for you.

Miss Granger, I believe that we have met. Perhaps you remember the trumpet player by the river some weeks ago? Alas, my meager trumpet skills do not allow me to give up my day job. I look forward to meeting with you again or meeting another of Molly and Arthur's sons.

Sincerely,
Caradoc Dearborn
