It was a good day to stay at work late. Hermione had felt out of sorts since waking, so she'd been off all day. When she'd heard about the damage done in town, she'd gone to see it for herself and realized that there had been reason to worry that morning. Even if they'd not been in any particular danger, people who would steal from a hospital, vandalize the town, and rob the market were the type that could do anything if cornered ( ... )

Sanguini carefully stepped inside the shop and let the door close slowly behind him. He had a small smile on his lips, not baring his fangs, and he glanced around the room at the candles. He found this curious, considering that it was the norm to use electricity in Stoatshead (at least, to his knowledge), even if the occupants are wizards. The vampire did note that the lamp he used in his house had failed to turn on after he woke up, but he thought it was a fluke. Perhaps not.

"Very well, thank you." He raised an eyebrow. "Is there something going on with the power?"

"The power is out, though I always use candles to light the shop," she explained. "I rarely use Muggle technology, oddly enough. Besides, the glow of candles is much better for browsing titles than harsh Muggle light."

She put down her quill and stepped out from around the counter. "From what I've heard, the town was attacked last night. The power station was hit, as was River Road, and there was also a robbery at the hospital and the market and possibly other places. It's difficult to know what's truth and hearsay."

Sanguini frowned.

"That is most unfortunate. I wasn't aware that such vandals existed here, although that might be a bit naive. I do have a tendency to underestimate people, I suppose."

He shook the subject from his mind.

"It would be a shame to dwell on such a negative turn of events. What kinds of books are available at this time?"
