Date: 26 February 2005 Character(s): Constance Montgomery, Fred Weasley Location: Five Alarm Status: Public Summary: Connie and Fred meet for lunch to talk toys. Completion: Incomplete
Fred was very excited as he made his way to the Five Alarm. Toys! He hadn't gotten to mess with toys in quite a while, and he definitely hoped that Connie's shop would give him an excuse, erm, a reason to experiment with something more playful than hangover potion.
He walked in and saw Connie sitting at a booth.
"Hello!" he said with a grin. "How's business? Or the set up, at least?"
Connie smiled brightly. "Hi!" she replied. "Going well - the building is coming along pretty fast. Once my flat above the shoppe is done, I can open, so I need to start picking out paint and shelves."
"I have a very serious decision, though. Do I want bubblegum pink or fluorescent pink walls for my shoppe," she joked.
"Ah," Fred nodded sagely. "The most fun part of the building process."
He paused, looking serious. "Bubblegum, I would imagine; it's whimsical enough to appeal to the youngsters while easy on the eyes of your elderly cauldron-buyers. Although I might prefer, myself, something in neon plaid."
"Well enough. Apothecary keeps us busy - always something to be brewed or shelves to be stocked. Yourself?"
Connie grinned. "Most certainly. Though I hadn't considered neon plaid. I'm afraid you've put me in a quandry," she said. "You're making my decision that much harder, Fred. That's terribly rude."
She nodded. "Not quite as busy, though I should enjoy that now because I know how busy I'll be soon. Oh, and I got an owl from Ginny the other day," she added happily. "I'm meeting her on Wednesday for dinner. It'll be nice to see her."
She placed her order with the waitress and paused for Fred to do so as well. "I brought lots of catalogues to look at, so prepare yourself for toy overload," she said with a smile, waving the packet of papers.
Connie agreed. "Maybe I could ask around town, see if anyone's got a knack for Charms," she said. "The chalks do seem like fun."
She laughed. "I think I would have loved to see Ginny force you to play tea party. That must have been a sight," she said. "And I probably should stock a few, murdering doll movies aside."
"Oh, do," Connie said with a grin. "You guys made a pretty impressive name for yourselves back at Hogwarts, and I'm sure whatever you create is probably going to sell better than an import."
Fred was a little hurt. Experimental charms expertise? "Not really necessary, but thanks. And they do seem fun."
He shuddered. "It was, indeed, a sight." The creepy dolls, the water in the little cups that he didn't think she'd ever washed - he still, occasionally, had nightmares. The muggles were on to something with movies about creepy dolls, in his opinion. "They murder, in the movies? Not surprised."
"I'm sure we could scare up a few items - some of the products required more of the fancy spell-work and less of the rare ingredients. I'll have to check with my partner in crime, but I bet we can get you something."
"Unless you've got time to look at it," Connie added. "I'm not sure how busy you are with the apothecary - I wouldn't want to take up you time, if you don't have much to spare."
Connie grinned. "Yeah - there's this one movie some friends made me watch called Chucky or something about a boy doll that scared the hell out of me. American horror movies seem to delight in creepy dolls. Never been able to stand them since then."
Connie paged through another catalogue, finding the page she was looking for. "Well, there's some miniature potions and quidditch sets for kids, so probably those. There's also some Muggle things - chemistry sets, legos, things that kids can put together, create, or build in multiple ways that I thought might be fun. Maybe a charm on the legos to automatically return to their box when the kid is done so they don't lose pieces?" she thought out loud.
