The hours leading up to the moon, Remus could hear Gilen whimpering downstairs in the basement. His stomach twisted, hearing the boy's soft cries. The only reason he wasn't downstairs was for collecting a few things to help soothe Gilen. Namely towels, blankets and some warm milk. Those little comforts that he could at least provide Gilen.

Remus was, though, shocked he wasn't feeling the impending ache in his bones. He'd become so accustomed to feeling that ache that to not feel it seemed strange. Remus took a cursory glance down at the bracelet. Maybe... just maybe... it was going to work. He could only hope.

Levitating the few items in front of himself, Remus descended the stairs and locked the basement door behind himself. In the corner sat Gilen, curled up in a ball and rocking himself. Remus went to him, crouching down on the floor and pulling the boy into his arms.

"Hurts... just... hurts it is."

"I know," Remus whispered, lightly kissing the top of Gilen's head. "It'll be over soon."

Gilen crawled into Remus's lap, using his shirt to muffle all whimpers and cries of pain. All Remus could do was hold him and whisper words of comfort that he knew would have no affect. And so they stayed like that until the pull from the moon became too much. Remus held Gilen for as long as he could until it was Moony who took over. Remus was too concerned over Gilen to notice the ease in his transformation. It wasn't pain-free by any stretch of the imagination, but it was severely lessened. It was later that he'd actually think on this.

It was Gilen's screams that were currently breaking his heart.

After what seemed like an eternity of cries, a tiny wolf pup lay curled on the cool cement. Moony padded over to the wolf, gently licking his face. The older Alpha taking care of the new ones in the pack.

They played, bouncing about the basement. The pup nipped at Moony's tail, attempting to jump onto his back. Moony growled playfully with the pup, chasing him around the basement. They fought over one of the towels, the pup ending up flying against the wall when the towel ripped in two. Moony gave the pup a workout and it wasn't long before he began lagging in their games. Moony laid down and it was the pup who curled against his side. Moony rested a paw protectively around the pup, closing his eyes. Together, they slept the rest of the moon out like that. And all was right with the world.

Moonset was easier on them both. The setting of the moon brought the second transformation. Remus dressed himself in a loose-fitting robe, feeling a bit more energy than usual following the moon. Either this bracelet was working like some sort of a placebo or it was really helping. Remus gathered Gilen up into his arms and took the bruised and bleeding child upstairs to bed. Wounds could be tended to later. Sleep was paramount right now.

To that end, Remus crawled into bed beside Gilen, keeping the boy close in his embrace. He knew what would help him right now and he was only too willing to assist.

Still, Remus could not help his mind from wandering.

He was nowhere near as sore as he had been prior too and so closely follow the moon. And the only explanation... was the bracelet.
