Katie was still stressed out about the current state of her finances when she returned from her shopping excursion to Exeter. Not a fun shopping trip by any means - unless one got some secret thrill from buying lumber, which she certainly didn't. Not even lumber that could be used to build a box office in a movie theatre. Despite her rough budget, she certainly hadn't really been certain on how much the materials would cost, and this had been her first major expenditure - she hadn't quite been prepared for it. She supposed there was a chance that the man had been taking advantage of her - female, not a professional carpenter, and too uncertain about muggle money to haggle - but nobody else had seemed thrilled with the prices either ( ... )

Florean was rummaging through his drawer of bartered goods when the bell over the door tinkled and a witch walked in. Looking up, Florean cleared his throat, hoping that he didn't sound too bunged-up and scare off customers.

He put on a genial smile, although he didn't feel much like being cheerful (what exactly did Harriet mean by 'man flu' anyway?). "That's me. How can I help?"

Katie was almost beginning to have second thoughts when he raised his head. She had to remind herself that this wasn't meant to be her dream job - just a means to an end so she could secure some funds.

"I noticed the sign in your window," she began, "the one saying you needed help?" She wanted to kick herself, of course he knew what sign she meant.

Deciding she was getting off to a horrible start, Katie was going to hold out her hand, but resisted considering that apparent cold Mr.Fortescue had. It was a bit of a shame, the look of illness of him, considering she had always found the dairy owner handsome - at least for an older man.

"I'm Katie Bell," she offered her name, even if she kept her hand back. "I live here in Stoatshead. I was wondering what kind of help you were looking for."

He nodded, smiling. Excellent. Someone who was actually interested in the job. Still, Florean thought that perhaps a little more advertising wouldn't go amiss.

"Florean Fortescue," he introduced himself, although she already seemed to know that. "I'm looking for someone to work in the shop, serving customers. It's not much, but I really need at least one other person around so that I can concentrate on both my businesses more." He waved a hand around. "I intend to pay wages in Muggle money, too."
