Date: January 17, 2005 Character(s): Millicent, Justin, Gilderoy, Ella Location: Flat above Julian Avery's Status: Private Summary: Millicent get a surprise visit - and her daughter back. Completion: Incomplete
It had been a very long walk. Ella was very excited, very energetic, and Gilderoy was very tired by the time they made it up the stairs to the flat where she was staying
( ... )
He'd been there a few days, and he was quickly getting used to this semi-domestic type of life. He didn't mind helping out, and he was still rather worried about her. She was a bit weak, and he hated seeing her sway when she got up out of bed. She was looking better though; her colour had returned- at least, she wasn't nearly as pale as she had been when he found her. He'd done what he could, but even still, a small part of him thought that it wasn't enough.
He heard noise outside the door and then a knock. "Wait there, and I'll get it," Justin said over his shoulder to Millicent as he flipped the meat in the pan. He'd been making steak sandwiches for them both, and they were nearly done. Wiping his hands on a towel, he tossed it onto the counter. It was then that he heard Ella's shouts. Laughing, he wandered over to the door and pulled it open. "Hello, Gilderoy. Hello, Miss Ella!"
Ella looked up at Mr Giant man with a grin, not at all expecting to see him there.
'Hi, Mr Giant,' she giggled. 'Daddy tooked me here to see Mummy, and we brang bread and jam,' she explained happily. Then she frowned. 'Mummy is here, isn't she? Daddy said she would be and Muffin D-Man said she would be too,' she said a bit quieter, not wanting Mummy to be away again.
"Bread and jam?" he asked. "That sounds yummy! I was actually just making lunch for your mummy and me. There's extra, if you'd like to share with us."
Biting his lower lip, he crouched down so he was eye-level with the little girl. "Your mummy hasn't been feeling very well," he said to her. "So we might have to be a little quiet for a little bit. But she's missed you terribly- she told me so herself. And she'll be very happy that you've come to visit!"
"We stayed at the Gildery shoppe. There's a spare bedroom right next to the one Julian and I share, so it was more convenient. Besides, with Knobby there, and the fact that Ella is so good at working with me, it just made more sense for all of us to stay there
( ... )
Avery and Gilderoy were really sharing a bedroom? Then they were... but they couldn't be, could they? Daddy had always said - no she couldn't think of that right now, she needed to focus on Ella and what Gilderoy was saying.
Had he just said he'd been in the hospital? 'You were in the hospital? Were you seriously sick?' she quickly asked, at once worried about him, while also worrying about Ella being in the care of only a house elf.
She didn't listen much to his elaborations about food. Ella had never been picky and always eaten whatever was put in front of her and her idea of bread and jam as her invention she would grow out of.
"Oh, no, not sick. Stabbed," Gilderoy said, taking a bite of his sandwich, "with scissors. I don't recommend it at all, let me tell you. So exhausting, those potions that mend internal organs. Days of coughing up slime 'cause of that one that fixes punctured lungs... and then they wanted me to stay in bed for another three or four days afterward? HAH! Gilderoy Lockhart has better things to do," he looked over at Ella for support, "doesn't he, angel?"
Ella nodded. "Um-hum! Daddy readed to me 'bout Alice while he was getting better. An' he said making tea an' cookies maked a person better, too. An' we was mitting while daddy was getting better, too!"
"Being sick or injured is highly impractical. Not a past time to pursue if it can at all be avoided."
'You were stabbed? Who stabbed you?' Millicent asked in shock, tightening her grip on Ella, wondering what could have happened had Ella been too close.
