Blaise sat at his desk looking out the window into his back garden. One of his hands toyed with his cigarette case, whilst the other raised a cup of coffee to his mouth. He still hadn’t really tackled that area of the house, though Katie’s work inside was almost done, and he’d finished the adjustments he’d wanted to make to his en-suite bathroom the week before. He’d have to start concentrating on the garden at some point soon, preferably before the summer. Living in a warmer climate for most of the last six years he had grown accustomed to spending a lot of time outside and having access to a pool. Here in Britain it didn’t seem the most practical idea to have an outdoor one, but perhaps he could build a structure to hold an indoor one at the bottom of the garden. It would be nice to be able to go for a swim whenever he wished. And have a Jacuzzi to fuck Terry in perhaps, he added with a slow grin.

He’d have to look into it, but for now he found his time taken up with other projects. Cedric had owled him a couple of days earlier to notify Blaise of his return and pass on a few gifts. It had been unexpected, but Blaise had been grateful and both books had made for interesting reading, Across the Divide in particular. Blaise was planning on writing him back that day to thank him and take up Cedric’s offer to show him more of what he had arranged so far in regards to the museum.

However, so far he hadn’t started the letter yet, his thoughts preoccupied with the witch who usually occupied the next office to him. Mandy had been much quieter since the New Year. Even at Terry’s party Blaise had noted something off about the witch. She seemed like she could do with cheering up and whilst there were likely plenty of people who could fulfil that task, it might pay to see to it himself. As well as being fond of Mandy, Blaise also considered it good sense to have a good relationship with one’s employees and to know what was on their minds.

Blaise shook off the thought, took a large sip of coffee to wake him up and lit up on of his roll ups. He’d talk to her tomorrow, maybe take her out somewhere, but for now he had letters to write.

Cedric,

Welcome back, I trust this letter finds you well and that your trip and subsequent ramblings in Canada were worthwhile. Thank you for the books, they proved an interesting bit of light reading. Both the gifts and thought behind them were appreciated.

Now that you are back I was hoping to take you up on the offer you made to take a look around the new museum building and also abuse the chance to discuss a few things with you. Perhaps sometime next week would be suitable for both of us.

Blaise

Hermione,

I’ve found myself pining a little these last few days for something. Imagine my surprise when I realised it was your company and conversation that I was missing. Last week was the first week for quite a while that I haven’t had the pleasure of discussing books and history with you. It seems the habit is becoming a touch addicting.

I was hoping you could help me find my fix and that maybe you would be interested in getting dinner or a drink together this Thursday?

Blaise

Blaise smirked as he finished the letter, hoping that Hermione would find the lightly teasing tone amusing. He really had missed her company and that worried him a little.

He felt a little uncomfortable about the next letter. He was still feeling a little aggrieved about both the last time he had wrote to his old professor and his inability to move quicker with his plan. But he didn’t want to rush the work both he and Hermione were doing on the curriculum for history. He was enjoying it immensely, and he thought it was something he could one day be quite proud of. He just hoped that McGonagall did not dismiss the idea.

M. McGonagall,

I’m contacting you once again in regards to our last correspondence concerning the new school and the issue of History of Magic.

I trust that you will now be beginning to look into more long term plans concerning the school now that we are in the new year and more than a month into the life of the temporary school-in-a-box. Because of this I feel that there is a need to contact you.

I mentioned in my previous letter to you how strongly I felt about the place of History of Magic in the new school’ curriculum and subsequent to our correspondence I began to look at it more closely. I’ve begun working with Miss. Hermione Granger on a new curriculum for the subject that we would like to put forth to you once it’s finished. Should you be interested in using it I would also like to make clear my interest in the position of teacher of History of Magic when the new school is in place.

If you wish to discuss any of this further with me please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Blaise Zabini.

Blaise sealed each of the letters and handed them to Prometheus to deliver. The Owl held its head up high and refused to accept them, instead staring pointedly at the box on Blaise’s desk where he kept Prometheus’ treats.

Blaise smirked and opened the small, ornate box to retrieve a treat for the owl. He passed him two. “Happy now?” he asked the bird.

It ruffled its feathers at him, hoping from one leg to the other in reply.

Blaise once again moved to hand over the letters, but paused at the last minute. “Bring me a response from Hermione back and you can have one of your special treats,” he bribed, before allowing the owl to fly off.
