Ginny dropped two case files at reception and picked up six more, heading for the staircase to the upper floors as she flipped through the notes she'd made earlier in the week.

'Dammit, I thought I fixed this formula. I wanted to try two level teaspoons of ground hens tooth.'

You were making that note when you bumped into...

'Full stop.'

Pulling out her quill, she made the adjustments and quickly re-worked the formula in her head, jotting down the changes and setting instructions for the medwitches as she pushed through the doors to the third floor. It was quiet up here in "Long Term Care", as it was called. Ginny still called the Spell Damage Ward but never out loud.

Dropping the charts on the counter, she made her way to the nearest bed, taking the hand of the unmoving occupant with a sigh. Ginny had thought she'd made a breakthrough last week but Mr. Callahan had slipped back into his comatose state within hours, crushing her hopes moreso than if he'd never responded in the first place.

"I'll get it right, Mr. Callahan." The petite redhead murmured softly, brushing his grey-flecked hair from his forehead. Glancing down, she saw that someone on the nightshift had left a book and she picked it up.

'Watership Down'

How appropriate.

"Would you like a story, Mr. Callahan? I think you might like this one. Once upon a time, there lived a little rabbit named Fiver who had a vision. He dreamt of the destruction of his home, the warren. ...flames shot out the Burrow's tower window... He and his brother, Hazel, ...George was yelling for Ginny but the smoke and noise drowned him out... try to warn their leader, Chief Rabbit but were turned away..."

Ginny sat down in the chair beside the older wizard's bed, stretching her legs out, crossing them at the ankle as she propped the book up on her lap. Her Healer robe slipped off her shoulders as she leaned back, her voice soft and gentle as she began to read aloud.

You know, you have to sleep sometime.

'No, no I don't. I'm a Healer. I can drink Pepper Ups until...'

Until they kill you. Yes, I'm sure your brothers will be thrilled about that.

'I'm not listening to you anymore.'

"... The refuge group of rabbets are confronted by Holly, leader of the Owsla, the military wing of the warren, but manage to fight him off. The rabbits wander dejected, but Hazel's leadership keeps the band alive and together..." Ginny turned the page and continued reading.
