Snow White & the Huntsman FTW

My daughter and I went to see Snow White & the Huntsman by ourselves today so we could geek out over it.  And oh, did we ever.  For the most part, the fabric used in the costuming was appropriate for the styles, the armour looked usable, the horses were pretty, the CGI was good, AND once she got started, Snow White didn't sit on the sidelines and ( Read more... )

I'm glad you both liked it! I've seen very mixed reviews but still some good ones, and I'd go by the opinions of people whose opinions I already trust, so it's good to read this as I'm off to see it Tuesday! I thought the trailer looked stunning, so visually alone I think I'll be pretty happy. Also Charlize was on Graham Norton's chat show here yesterday and I thought she was brilliant, very dryly funny as well as gorgeous. I'll let you know what I think after Tuesday!

VIsually, you'll definitely be VERY happy. The script isn't spectacular, but it holds together decently and has some interesting twists. (I'd love to see an uncut first draft of it. I think they had to cut some stuff out for time.)

I'd gone into the movie only knowing Charlize Theron was in it. When I first saw Kristen Stewart on screen, my heart dropped, but she did a better job than I'd expected (only having heard of her through negative Twilight comments). I were watching it only for the acting, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much, but the whole package, with CGI, etc., pulled it together for me.

I'm glad you liked it. I was kind of unsure after reading longcat's review. But I do love the idea of CT being all evil. ;)

I haven't read anyone's critical review. I will say this isn't a "perfect" movie, but there are some interesting twists to the tale, and the CGI and scenery (and for me, the costuming) make up for a lot of the script's shortcomings. I'd say that Kristen Stewart was the weakest of the actors, but she did an adequate job with the part. My guess is that you'll enjoy it.

Have t agree with all that's been said. Visually stunning - but such a disappointing script overall. I liked the twists, coulda woulda shoulda. Naturally watched for Chris Hemsworth, thought his character could have done with a little more flashing out. The brother was just creepy - loved that little aside. Kristen Stewart? Having never seen the other films, had an open mind, but was disappointed. Not much to see there. Charlize stole the show - horrible, tragic and sad. Of course, it was streets ahead of Magic Mike - 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.
