As every student taking part in the music programs here at St. Jude has been reminded, the music room doors are, have been and will always be open after school, later in the next month than ever before. Because it's that time of year, the time when you have a whole three weeks before the final spring concert and you probably aren't even entirely ( Read more... )

Aine is, surprisingly enough, really good at things beyond 'micromanaging her household' and vaguely blasphemous banter. The first of these is the piano, and since the one she's got at home is wildly out of tune (also, a billion years old), she often sneaks into the music room to make use of the piano there. Since the doors are open, however, there's no such need to be stealthy! ...she may be mildly disappointed by this, because she's weird.

She snags the bench and runs through a couple of scales to warm up.

Dane doesn't really stay after school very often. Usually it's just for lit mag or occasionally for a make-up test or something. Today it was for the former. Even though there wasn't a meeting. He just needed to mess around with the formatting software. He also probably wanted to talk to Mr. Keating about something but that's nothing new and is entirely irrelevant. The relevant part is just that he's still here.

And that he catches a glimpse of Aine on his way past the music room so stopping in to say hi seems like a brilliant idea. Even if he doesn't actually say hi at first. Because appropriate movie cliches call for listening to her warm up and maybe play something first.

It's nothing too exotic to start up with--Beethoven, the first movement of Moonlight Sonata. Toward the middle, though, she becomes aware of someone watching her, and looks up, although she doesn't stop playing. She's gone through this piece so many times she doesn't need to watch the keys constantly. "Hey."

He raises a hand with a "hey" right back before making his way over to the piano. "It'd sound kind of dumb right about now to say you're really good at that." Which is obviously no reason for him not to say it.
