<3 thank you!

i've had it for a very long time, but i didn't wear it because i felt (in the stupidity of my teenage years) that the collar was too clownish. i know better now.

What I love most about these kinds of dresses is my memory of them in fashion magazines from the 70s and 80s. They are made to look almost conservative and subdued, but they were always worn by a tarted up model wearing tons of make-up and an updo. They represent that whole 'sexy innocence' that was so in fashion in the 70s, which my childhood self is really enamored by, but my feminist self finds unsettling.

yes! my main memory of them is from watching the lawrence welk show with my grandparents where the women were always playing ukuleles in faux nature scenes with pink bubbles floating behind them. they always had the long sleeve dresses with ruffles (usually maxi even) and were obviously supposed to be sweet & wholesome & natural & demure despite the fact that they were super coiffed and applied makeup with a trowel. "sexy innocence" is a very good way to put it.

i agree that it's kind of hard to reconcile feminism and objects/trends that have sentimental/nostalgic value. it is for me, anyway.

but not as sweet as you! xo!

that is meant in a jokey fun way as opposed to a awkward skeezy way. i think many of my comments seem to wander into the territory of the latter since the internet does not allow me to deliver them with a proper wink & an elbow.
