Was ill and miserable the entire weekend. Felt like the scum off the pondscum, if you get my drift (yeah, I don't either shhhh). But work came round with only four people in the office, and we managed to pull it off. YES! She's alive!!!! :D

As for the link about harassment at the con...I don't doubt it happens. Let's do the math - traditionally, most people in these fandoms are men, and these men are shy and/or awkward around "normal girls". Thus, when they see girls at cons that focus on their nerdy fandoms, they think they have an instant connection and they're virtually set to pick up a girl. It doesn't help that most of these girls - especially the ones dressed up - look pretty darn good, because usually the characters they're dressed up as usually are pretty smokin' on the page and on the screen, as well.

It's as if I ran into a female Batman fan and asked if she wanted to get a room with me in the first sentence. I mean...yeesh.

I think you're right about the awkward guys just failing with the fangirls, but plenty of those I've met are basically harmless. These guys are the 1% that are not, and I really want to do something to make it clear the stuff they do will not be tolerated. Grr. The attitude they have is like 4chan and shouldn't have to be relived IRL, it's what the interweb's for.

Thanks! Ah... alma mater happens to be UCR, which I hate with a blazing passion. *shakes fist*

And cons are supposed to be fun, and hopefully the posts catch the attention of the organisers.
