I twisted my ankle and can't walk, therefore I won't come to work for the next few days.
Luckily, I had already compiled the schedule for the next week. You'll find them in the usual place, Bastet. [ MYSTERIOUSLY, THE SCHEDULE DOESN'T INCLUDE HER.
How fortunate, isn't it? No, I don't want anyone to come over and try to help, it would be just a

Haven't I told you that I don't mind? What's your question, then?

[ That was too vague of a question, but Lin knew Bastet could probably guess who she was talking about. ]

What makes you ask?

I've only met one new arrival, actually. Who have have you met that's familiar to you?

[ But, back on topic. ]
That's why I was asking you...

[She doesn't like not knowing that there are more people from home around; it's valuable information, and she plans to get as much from Lin as possible.]

The other one I've met is a man who goes by the name of Kagami. He's definitely a good fighter, although maybe not so skilled at hand-to-hand combat, he's probably used to carry some sort of weapon.
[ She didn't mention that something about him made her feel uncomfortable. No need to make Bastet laugh at her and how paranoid she was being. Sumi is the one whose reiatsu flared two days ago. I have no further information about her, at the moment ( ... )

Asuka asked to join the Guard. I suppose that's why.
[Sumi, Bellflower, Kagami...nothing that rang a bell so far, but it was no surprise, without physical descriptions.]
That's not unprecedented; I can sense people who aren't from our world as well. You have to concentrate, but you can even track and identify normal humans that way.
[She answered Lin's unspoken question easily enough.]
Crimson is Kisuke--the blond man you saw in my dream.

[ Lin had simply never tried focusing on anyone that wasn't from their world. Did they matter at all? Most of the times she closed her eyes and blocked out anything else but that one voice she was looking for, it was to try and figure out where Bastet was. ]
Oh.
[ Hearing that name-- feeling that way too familiar pang of jealousy in her stomach-- it definitely showed on her face, even if just for one second. ]
Him.
[ Putting piece by the piece the puzzle back together-- Yoruichi had to leave, leaving her behind. And she left with this man, Kisuke. ]

Yes, him. So you'll likely be seeing him around.
[And she anticipated she'd have to referee them both the entire time.]

Is he going to live with you?
[ Lin regretted the question one second after asking it. Why ask? She was going to find out anyway if he moved in. But it seemed like it just slipped out of her mouth. ]
Forget it. It's none of my business.
[ --Was she even going to try and fight? This one, Lin already knew, was impossible to win. Wouldn't it be less painful for everyone if she just stepped aside and let them be?
Less painful for everyone but her. Did she even have the strength to give up, let her go, resign herself to the fact that that annoying man was always going to be special to Bastet, more special than her? ]

We haven't talked about it.
[She personally didn't care either way; he'd been over her house enough since his arrival, even though he still lived in temporary housing. She doubted that would change, no matter where he lived.]
Are you going to stop visiting if he does?
Reply
Do you want me to stop visiting if he does?

[It was growing obvious that Lin saw Bastet's departure into exile as having been a choice between her and Kisuke...which hadn't been the case at all. There'd been so much more at stake than that; a war they were apparently still fighting at home, a century later.
So now, it seemed, anyone important to Bastet was a threat--Kisuke most of all. Bastet knew all this...but she wanted it out in the open.]
