Gang Rape on Campus

This past Sunday, at 3AM, in a dorm building diagonally across from my own, a girl was gang-raped in the bathroom by five different guys. One was a campus student, the rest were off-campus friends of his. The police (thanks most likely to the fact that all the guys DID check in with the RSR and their drivers liscences were put into the system as is

I thought most people had more of a brain than to blame the victim

Rape has a huge bunch of issues attached to it in our society.

There's actually a tendency among high school students for rape victims to get the status of 'slut'. It's an othering method, a way of saying "well, it happened to her but it must have been something she did, so I'm safe because I don't behave like she does".

It's stupid and damaging and horrible, and it is far too damn pervasive.

I didn't realize that there were people who were victim blaming for this crime, but I can't say I'm terribly surprised unfortunately :( I can't stand how society seems to view rape, it's hard enough for the victim as it is. It's never appropriate to blame a victim, EVER even if she was flirty or drunk or whatever, yet there always seems to be people who insist it's somehow the victim's fault. No one deserves to be raped.
