Crush [for Jill]

The lab is always quiet at night. The Compound on the whole is pretty quiet at night actually and Bob likes that. Everything is easier to handle when it's quiet; it gives him time to think and there's nothing so comforting as his own thoughts ( Read more... )

Coming back with coffee for herself and with a glass of juice for Bob, Jill smiles brightly when she sees him standing near her laptop and she doesn't notice the flowers right away. All she can really see is her coffee cup -- thank God it was freshly brewed -- and the work they've been doing. Or attempting to do, she's not sure if anything is actually being accomplished.

"I brought some juice for you," she says, offering it to him. It's strange, but Bob's seemed a bit more relaxed lately. But maybe that's just because she's been feeling better.

"Oh," he says, jumping a little at the sound of her voice, his arm immediately dropping to his side.

His lips curve upward just slightly as he looks at the cup she's offering and he hesitantly reaches out to take it from her. "Thank you," he says with a slight nod, both hands curling around the cup and drawing it close to his body and ducking slightly just to smell it before looking at her mug of coffee. "You know coffee is a leading source of antioxidants," he says matter-of-factly, his stomach still swimming with nerves. "Along with black tea and bananas. Though, it's not the best source, just the most popular."

"Then I suppose it's a good thing I drink so much of it, isn't it?" Jill asks with a grin, squeezing Bob's elbow gently before she moves back over to her laptop, setting her coffee cup down beside it. It's then that she sees the flowers and for a moment she wants to blame them on David, but he had left much earlier and they weren't there before.

And then she remembers the rose. The invitation to the movie, the awkward, stumbling way Bob had asked her out. It's obvious they're from him this time.

He shuffles back to make room for her and he can feel a little tingling sensation in his elbow when she touches him, making his face flush and his hands shake just slightly.

She's seen the flowers now, he knows she has.

"I, uhm..." he stammers a little, not knowing whether it's a good thing or not that she'll know they're from him this time. "I gathered them earlier, but thought you'd like them best now. I tried to make the arrangement based on aroma and I think-- I thought... well, I hope you like it. Them."
