I saw Tangled last night and guess who was in the movie? My boyfriend's crazy, over-protective, manipulative, hocus-pocus believing, passive agressive mother! Everyone say hello to Maria!

I saw your review a couple days ago, but since I hadnt seen the movie (and knew I was going to) I skipped over that post. Needless to say, Im going back to read it asap.

The sheer mental and emotional acrobatics, and the pleasure she took in twisting people around on themselves- it was so spot on that I had to sit back in the theater and remind myself that this was a children's movie. Which lead me to think: while children may not fully understand what makes Gothel a bad character/mother, they're associating her actions with evil and not just colors or harsh sounding names (hi Ursula, Maleficent, etc) like in previous Disney films, which is certainly a step in the right direction.

(Also, I'm always annoyed on your behalf at your mother's shenanigans. I honestly dont know how you do it.)
