It works!!!

Meaning my main printer software!  Specifically, "HP Director".

I'd been able to install my printer software on my new laptop and the printer/scanner would run when other software accessed it, but HP Director itself just wouldn't run.  Half a dozen install/ uninstalls and other fluffing about hadn't worked, so I searched the web about it today - and ( Read more... )

IE7 and HP printer software anonymous January 20 2007, 18:13:28 UTC
Try http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-46104-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=79499&os=228&lang=en

Here's why: HP Director uses a web-based front end that uses HTML and JavaScript. Director relies on script to resize the browser window. IE7 blocks the resize.

Why does IE block this resize? Because malicious sites, especially phishing sites, often use this exact same technique to fool users. (Resizing in general is not blocked.)

Hope this helps. You can email me at dhach-at-microsoft.com

Re: IE7 and HP printer software stillcarl January 20 2007, 21:00:01 UTC
Ah - thanks, Microsoft...

But see the title I gave to this post - I'd already found a fix. What you're suggesting I do is install a fix to my printer software (which is currently working) and then install software I don't use to see if that still breaks it...

Sorry, but I've already wasted too many hours on this problem as it is. If I ever need to use IE for something, (say to see how a webpage I'm building looks in it), I will hopefully remember this post and find the fix for why my printer software's stopped working again. But hopefully I've finally learned my lesson and just won't ever care how my webpages look in IE anymore.
