Angel sighed as he felt the tension leave his body. The nightmare of the last few years was finally over. All of his family was with him. Lorne, Wesley, Gunn, Fred, Connor and most of all Cordelia, his Cordy. They were all together as a family and sitting at the table surrounded by tons of food.
He stared as the tempting dishes were passed back and forth across the table right under his nose but just out of reach. His mouth actually watered from the pleasing aromas. Everyone was talking and laughing, completely ignoring the look of hunger on his face. "Please pass the...."
More laughter interrupted him before he could finish speaking. What was wrong with everyone? Didn't anyone notice that his plate was the only one left empty while their plates were brimming with all the delicious foods they could hold? Didn't anyone care? For a brief moment water swam in front of his eyes and he feared he was back beneath the ocean.
"Hey, cinnamon buns. Don't you want any?"
Angel jumped at Lorne's question.
Gunn stared at Angel, his eyes filled with concern. "You okay, man?"
Angel smiled as he nodded. "For a minute I thought...."
His voice trailed off as Cordelia interrupted. "You thought that you were still buried, didn't you?" She didn't wait for him to answer before she continued. "It's going to take some time. But that's okay too. Just remember that I saved you once and I'll keep on saving you for as long as you need me too."
He did remember. After she'd hauled him up from the bottom of the ocean, it was Cordy's arms wrapped around him, holding him tight while she fed him blood, that had saved him. He still didn't know how she had managed to do it all. But the fact was that she'd done it. She had saved him when no one else would. As she passed him the potatoes, he smiled. "Thanks, Cordy." As he piled his plate high he knew that she would understand that he was thanking her for a lot more than just the food.

Locked deep beneath the ocean, fish swam in front of him in the icy water but Angel didn't take any notice, he was still lost in his fantasy world. A world where he was at peace, at home having dinner with the people he loved most. His family.
