Author's Note Inspired by the line "It Takes More Than One Taboo to Build A Perfect Freak"...and the shrink quotes... inspired by some of the lame-o shrinks on Desperate Housewives.
They made her see a shrink. He was the kind that always said “I can’t make you open up to me” and “I don’t believe people are evil, we’re all just humans,” but you could tell behind those spectacles he condemned you with his eyes, and always on his lips was the faintest smirk because he wasn’t the one serving 25-to-life.
She didn’t need to hear that all her problems stemmed from an alcoholic mother and a dad who up and left before she could even remember. She didn’t need to talk about the fights she picked or that she really felt like she was scum, that she could never fix the mistakes she made. And even if she did for some reason ever want to talk about it what was she supposed to say?
Oh yes, because I had no real parental figure, when the Mayor treated me like I was his daughter I turned into a cold blooded murderer and helped him to become a gigantic snake demon because I finally had that kind of affection in my life.
Did I mention that I’m a superhero who kills vampires and demons and other things that go bump in the night? Oh yeah, it’s true, and I’m not the only one. No the other is a preppy blonde with a perfect life, and a perfect mom, and perfect friends and a perfect everything. Inferiority complex? Me? Nah.
So every week for an hour Faith lay on the big couch and stared at the ceiling feeling like the perfect freak that she was.
