This is some deftly done, though-provoking material. I've only seen one season of Dollhouse (*shakes fist at UK DVD release schedules*), but I think you have Ballard down.
This line really entertained me. It sounds very Ballard-y:
"Ballard kept watching the dolls meander across the great room, happy as ambulatory clams."
Now that I'm all caught up, I came back to read this. Very nice! Ballard's not usually someone I care about, but you nailed Topher ("It’s swell that you feel like lurking in my office ’cause it’s the happening hot spot, but you're disrupting my flow") and I loved that Ivy got a word in, too!

Credit for that line has to go to angearia. She made it pitch-perfect!
I was no fan of Ballard (I think he's creepy as all heck) but the story wanted to be about him, somehow :P
Ivy, I have a huge soft-spot for. She's the junior scientist struggling to be taken seriously, and being dismissed because of her gender or her lack of experience. I wanted her to have the answer, and the sensitivity to know that Ballard had questions.

I'm not very confident in my character voices, so I'm very glad you thought Ballard was convincing.
