Plans, it seems, have been made, and Kim will leave again. As she walks over to Paul to say her goodbyes, Jen carefully moves away from Arthur and stands, brushing sand off her skirts.
It's all happening so quickly, too quickly, she thinks. You will not get there in time, Kim had said to Matt, speaking as a Seer, and she knows she is right, if not why.
Why is rarely something she is allowed to see, after all.
So little time left, for any of them-- but there's time enough for this. There has to be; she couldn't stand it otherwise.
Kim walks over to Jennifer, her roommate and oldest friend, and tries for a smile.
"It looks like I'm going to go haring off again, doesn't it?"
But does she? Do they truly know each other, any more, after so much has happened? They do, she thinks, they must. Surely this hasn't changed, not what really matters. Surely not.
Kim refuses to accept that it could be any other way.
"Not that it's much like school, I guess, but as long as you keep moving you don't fall, right?"

She smiles back, small and sad.
"You just never stop, do you?"

"As long as you don't trip, either."
