zhie wrote a funny post about Mary Sue and narcissism and being a fan of one's own writing. I really get a kick out of her LJ. :)

I've never understood the hatred of Mary Sue. Besides, who's to say a story IS a Mary Sue?

Mary Sues don't make badly written stories... lack of knowledge of grammar and spelling and writing in general make stories that are easy for people to mock. Instead of mocking, we should be encouraging (there are a few cases where encouragement won't help -- we had a guy in the ThunderCats fandom once who was adamant that he was the best writer ever, that the rest of us were crap, and that he would be the one to write the movie script for the revival... umm... we were not nice to him, but he was the one who came and peed in our sandbox first). It seems, though, that a lot of people will just straight-out bash certain types of stories or authors with less experience.

I'm glad I could amuse. This has appeased the baby giraffes. All is well in Mundania. ^_^
