Okay, I have to confess, I know nothing of this movie save what I read on the IMDb page. I was intrigued by the summary (and also the fact that most of the stuff posted in beforeyouwrite is really neat), and I had to read.
And god. I'm so, so glad I did. That tugged at my heart wonderfully, even brought it up into my throat near the end, and I think I'm going to have to head over to Blockbuster sometime soon. Basically all I can think is that, okay, there's Paris and there's cinema and there's incest which turns into a threesome and really, I can't possibly find anything wrong with that.
Matthew remembers that first night, a red light glowing through the crack in the door, Theo and Isabelle curled together the way he imagines they once were in the womb, naked and pure.
My favourite line. That's breathtakingly beautiful. I'm completely awed right now.
Thanks so much! I really didn't expect anyone to know the movie, let alone read this, so I'm pleasantly surprised that you liked it.
But seriously, WATCH THE MOVIE. It's one of my all-time favourite-- the acting's terrific, as is the soundtrack, cinematography, even the soundtrack. It completely captures Paris during the student riots. I cannot say enough good things about it! And if you're a film buff, Bertolucci's unbelievably recreates scenes from famous films and even splices them into the movie.
I totally intend to-- it sounds awesome. Possibly tonight if I get a chance, but certainly soon otherwise. x] I'll report back once I've done so, because I'm fairly sure I'll have good things to say about it. (It really CAN'T be bad. And even if it is, I have an unreasonable amount of affection for bad movies.)
Definitely one of my favourite movies of all time, I'll be honest. I knew exactly what scene this was, and it was touching. Especially the ending. Excellent writing. Very much captured the zeitgeist of the film.
