I come down on the sign of preferring "addictive," but I was really tickled to read the information to which msloserrific linked, and won't get quite as exercised about "addicting" as I would have before.

This may be because it's an American thing and I'm not American, but sounds HORRIBLE.

No, it's so not an American thing! Except maybe it is cause people won't stop saying it. But I was never sure if I should be as grated as I was.
