2nd weekly update

a rat? why rats? though.. we did pigs (in 2 classes).. so i guess... why pigs?

i think more places should have kids dissect mink (minks?). apparently, wisconsin has a lot of mink farms (for their fur, you know), so if they're dying, they might as well contribute to science.

I dissected mink in high school. Without sounding like a potential serial killer, I found it kinda fun. I was a little hesitant to start cutting up the little bastard but once you get started you get over it. I find the people who wear gloves amusing because they don't want to touch the rat (or mink) when touching it is half the experience. Today wasn't really a dissection, more like skinning the rat and locating its muscles, till next week I suppose.

yeah, we did mink and pigs in high school (along with various organs from sheep and cows). then we did pigs again in college.

i prefer to wear gloves. mostly because the smell is hard to get off your hands if you don't, and "eau du preserved-dead-animal" doesn't sit well with lunch.

How were you on the rock wall, in comparison to Cody? Is it a strength thing? or a skill (i.e. practice) thing?

It takes a little practice and according to Tim, he works at the wall, I learned how to tie the knots faster than Cody did. As for strength you don't really want to pull with your arms but push up with your legs, use your arms more as an anchor to the wall.

I think I dissected a baby pig in high school.
Also, and more fun actually we dicected worms. Night-crawlers actually. Are night-crawlers "worms"? In the fishing world they aren't. Not sure about the animal kingdom.
