is heloise another dog? if so, are both gertie and heloise altered? if not, then please, please, please! alter them. female dogs often have dominance issues (which is what you mean when you say they "don't get along") and a big step foreward is making sure both dogs are altered. even still, i have never, EVER come across two dogs that can never "get along." (and it's even easier to get cats and dogs to get along) it takes work and supervision, but it can be done, and pretty quickly. if you and ginger are willing to put forth the effort, gertie can be living with you and be taken care of as well as she deserves. let me know if you want more infoz.

sorry to "butt in" and whatnot, but i'm really passionate about animals and owners should really have more information before they take big steps like seperating a dog from its owner because of behavioral issues.

Yeah, both of the dogs have been spayed. And we did try to make it work and give them chances to live together in even relative peace. But after four months of constant fighting and the occasional bloodshed, we decided to send Gertie to live my dad. Gertie & I lived with my dad for the first year and a half of her life, so it's not as if she was moving in with a stranger.

The problem really was that Ginger was training Heloise more than I was training Gertie, so Heloise was much better behaved than Gert. Gertie, though, has a threshold for training. She'd forget stuff so easily that I could only instill in her the basics. She just didn't really like other dogs, either; she really preferred people.

They would get along fantastically for a week, then they'd fight and one of them would hurt the another.
