Stop. Don't even finish reading this review. Get up and go to the bookstore and buy this book.
OK, back now? New paper smells really good, doesn't it? And the cover is nice and shiny and feels good under your fingers? And the cover copy teases, making you wonder why no one else thought of writing a book about witches fighting during the American ( Read more... )

Cool!

I didn't want to get all spoilery, and figured comparisons might play better. Especially since it's a book that got me to think once I took a moment to catch my breath.

I expected a good book, but this is better.

Thanks, Steve. I think the second and third books are better than this one... by the time I got to the third one, pieces were just clicking together in ways better than I expected. But I'll have to wait and see what you and everybody else thinks.

It hit all the right notes, Charlie. Of course, you already knew that, deep down. :-)

I posted the guts of the review over on Amazon, btw. Five reviews there so far. Most with 5 stars. And the book moved from a rank in the 300,000s to a little over 13,000 as I looked at it just now. So, it's looking good. No idea what that kind of change means, as I picked up my hard copy (as opposed to the earlier electronic one) over at Nicola's here in town over lunch.

You'll probably finish it before Monday's meeting.

Good that you bought it for the Kindle. I know Charlie is curious as to how that's going to work out compared to the B&M sales.

It was interesting to see the Amazon rank fluctuation. Major jump from yesterday to today and its release. It's hovering around the mid- to high-teens at the moment. Seriously, you could go mad trying to analyze those ups and downs.
