Ow, you just broke my heart. But I could totally understand Danny reacting that way especially with Grace in the picture. I mean that scene with SEAL Team 9, that was a visceral in-your-face reminder of what Steve might have done as a SEAL. I like to think the Danny in the show can reconcile that with the Steve he knows and loves now. But this fic shows that maybe he just can't. Love sometimes is not enough. I like how you explored that here. Painful coda, but beautifully written. Ow. The "I can neither confirm nor deny" answer Danny gave was like a punch to the gut. As well as the transfer back to HPD. Ow.
