I'm sorry, but I have to ask you why you're getting so wound up over a character we haven't even met yet. The key word is "possible" but still, she might be a cool character. I find it highly unlikely they are going to depart from the Steve/Danny dynamic, because I know people who are not into the fandom itself, but love the show and the way the two mesh as partners. Lenkov I am sure knows this and will not screw around with that. My two cents.
Well, to be perfectly honest, it's almost 2 am, I'm on percocet and valium for a back injury and I've just been laid off, except they want me to stay long enough to run a national conference without any staff before they kick me to the curb, so I'm wound up in general and this seems as good an outlet as any to focus on, and a relatively safe one because it doesn't involve me no longer being able to pay my mortgage or buy food, so it's a lot less scary to worry about the fate of a TV show.
And I would've agreed with you about Lenkov until a) Jenna and b) the handling of Danny/Rachel. So my faith in him is a little shaken, and TV writers have a long history of monumentally fucking up a good thing. I haven't given up on him and I am hoping that it turns out well. The odds are not in favor of it, but hey...it could happen.
Yeah, it is kind of comical that for all the protestations that the sides were disinformation, etc., the only thing *not* to materialize thus far is Steve's fratboy behavior and Herself's response to it. The episode *number* -- 2.02 -- is the same; the character name and background is the same -- Lori Wilson, ex-Homeland Security agent foisted on them by the new Governor to "keep them in check"; the love interest angle is the same; even the situation that puts Steve working over the iTable with her is the same -- planning an "extraction." All that's missing (or different) is the part about Steve figuring she's a plant wearing a wire, how she proves she's not, and how they get to the issue of who she actually reports to.
*So much* depends on how they actually write and use her. If she were to be written and handled like Katee Sackhoff's Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on BSG, she'd be one of the guys in that her gender had no bearing on her competency or smarts or courage -- and craziness -- on the job.
I'm only new to H50dom, but I must admit the sudden influx of characters is disturbing to me, even the male characters. The Dynamic worked well in the first season and I can't help but think please don't fuck with a good thing. Despite the fact that Jenna was such a cookie cutter character I liked her (we needed an inept not for the field character, Kono could do with female company on the team and she has knowledge that balances well with the others) and if they don't pair her up with anyone she's fine in my books
( ... )
Considering I don't find Orlando Bloom attractive, my reasons for thinking he's not a good actor have nothing to do with seeing the pretty in him =D. (I am not starting anything, I just felt like saying, this amused me. Overall I agree with your point ^_^.)
Clearly their opinions are their own, but I just tend to ignore people who dislike the actors I do.. IMDB boards have at least one thread on every actor/actress listed starting "Such a bad actor/actress" yadda yadda. It's depressing if only because usually they can't give any sort of constructive reasoning behind this dislike of an actors performance (and the comment usually ends with an accusation the actor takes/ deals/ eats for breakfast the current drug of choice).
As for the casting- I see where your coming from.. Some of the poorer episodes for me were the ones that bought in guest stars who took over a member of the core teams role, and felt forced into it. She might be alright, but producers tend to add these characters when they want to draw in a certain demographic. And that more often then not falls flat on it's face.
And don't get me started on the pregnancy thing 'cause that just irritates the piss outta me.
Your reaction was exactly the same as mine. Why, why, why do they feel a need to stuff a romance down viewers throats? Yes, I have slashed Steve and Danny, but I'm able to accept a relationship like Steve and Catherine's. What I really dislike is the way they want to introduce the character. If they can resist the romance angle for at least the rest of the season, and give the relationship time to develop from antagonism to respect and so on ... then fine. But please don't have them in bed within the first three episodes! ((head desk)).
It's not the het relationship, it's the way it's being used as a lure ... when it isn't likely to work and may turn their loyal viewers off. Besides, I kind of liked Jenna Kay. Not as a romantic partner for Steve or Danny, but just as a character.

Put someone in the back of the camero and we're going to have a problem. If we see her every 5th episode, then whatever. IDK.
