Well, Bao (I'm presuming he's your advisor) tends to be very gung-ho on academe. But if your passion really lies in teaching outside of a university context, a PhD isn't necessarily a help...and it can hurt you (the dreaded, "I'm sorry, you're overqualified for this position" response, which can often mean "Our deal with the unions means we'd have to pay you more than the other candidates for this job").
