The other night, I watched about 15 minutes of the subtitled version of Totoro right before bed-- I came in too late, and I had to be up early the next morning, so I couldn't watch the whole thing. What I saw was very, very cute.
This morning, I finally watched it all the way through, and it was probably the most joyful movie, animated or otherwise, I've ever seen. The dub was very well-executed; having actual sisters play actual sisters brought a really great dynamic to Satsuki (and , Steve-o, the new dub is more accurate: you wouldn't pronounce the middle "u" in there. Su+ki nine times out of ten results in a voiceless middle "u" sound.) and Mei.
I loved the Catbus. Adorable and creepy at the same time. It was helpful that I had Spork on my lap the whole time; having a small, warm animal nearby when watching this movie adds to the appeal.
