two press screenings, evening with friends
Today "J" and I had only two SIFF press screenings, because the third press screening was strictly accredited press-only.
The 10 am film was a French-language Belgian and Canadian film about an unsuccessful actress who, observing that 35 is supposedly the "expiration date" for actresses, resolved to kill herself on her 35 birthday. It was billed as a comedy, but it wasn't funny. Poor.
The noon film was Le Chocolat de H, a Japanese documentary about a guy who became Japan's greatest chocolate confectioner, after a successful career as a pastry chef. Unless there's something special about food films, they tend to put me to sleep. There was nothing special about this one. Fair.
Update: I later learned that the press-only 2 pm film was titled Blinded by the Light.
This evening, I got together with friends. The usual Monday group - "L", "M", "J", "M", "D", and I - were all present. We had a fun evening.
