You know what I hate about computers? Or rather, to be totally unfair, about PCs? When they go wrong it's a complete disaster, and yet they leave you feeling like it's your fault.

It is indeed most peculiar how the PC-clone world has given up on the whole "Works vaguely like you'd expect" marking point.

Bummer that it didn't do what you wanted, at least not without undue effort.

It doesn't work because people don't value their time and brainspace appropriately. PCs are lots cheaper if you are willing to waste your time and brainmeats knowing weird crap like that.

Ug. How annoying. If it happens again, look for little purple or green codes on the function keys on the laptop. The one you're looking for looks like a rectangle with rounded edges or something that might resemble a monitor. On most of the PC's I've worked with there's 3 states to pushing Function-ThatKey -- laptop display, laptop display plus external, and eternal only. You have to wait about 5 seconds between preses, and the actual function key varies with the laptop brand.
