Mac laptop issue

I appear to have a serious problem with my laptop, and I'm wondering if any of the technically savvy folks I know have any advice on what to do about it. Since I'm guessing that most people aren't particularly interested in reading about problems with my four(?) year old Powerbook (possibly related to overheating), I'll hide most of this behind a ( Read more... )

I don't know, but I'm having similar problems with a 12" Powerbook a little older than yours.

Already sent email, but you didn't mention in that version that it was four years old. So I'm guessing it's not under any warranties. Alas.

If you think it's a heat problem, then just running the memory test until it gets hot would confirm it. Similarly, cooling it down (on top of cold packs?) might help.

In practice, I'd buy a new machine soon.

I did take to sticking one of my laptops in the refrigerator, but I don't recommend it as a long-term plan. It might get you past Tuesday's presentation, though.

A friend of mine props his laptop on bottlecaps to improve circulation. Could help, too.
