Criss-cross.

With this being the only week I've had free all summer, I've been trying to do as much as possible with a short amount of time. This means reading entire books and having movie marathons while I still have the option.

I finished the majority of Pride and Prejudice in a couple of days, which is a feat in itself. I'd like to take more time with it ( Read more... )

movies, books, summer

You and Shawn probably already discussed this, but I'm always impressed with the fact that Rope was filmed on 10-minute reels - meaning ten entire minutes of acting had to be perfect. They switch out the reels when the camera pans behind tables, curtains, etc., creating a "black" screen. It's kind of a bizarre exercise in filming, but I think it's also Hitchcock's typical "let's mess with these actors" mentality - the actors' accounts of flming describe how intense and high-pressure working on set was. Imagine being the person who messed up their lines at the 9:50 mark!

You have great taste in Hitchcock. I remember literally being on the edge of my seat the first time I saw Rear Window. I was practically shouting at the TV. "NO, GRACE KELLY! GET OUT OF THERE!" XD

Ooh, also, I do hope you enjoy The Time Traveler's Wife! I've been looking forward to the film for probably a year and a half now. I can't wait to see it!

I cry every time I read the book, but always at different parts.

I forgot that Hitchcock did Rebecca. Love that one. Apparently it was based on a book; it's been on my "intriguing" list for some time, I just haven't gotten around to it.

Good luck w/ Time Traveler's Wife. I really really didn't like it. But most people seem to, so hopefully you'll be in the majority :)

One thing I love about Rebecca is how you make it through half the movie before realizing.. the lead actress has no name. So symbolic of how Rebecca overshadows everything about her, even down to her identity to us as viewers.
