determine my future

So, here's my deal: for seven years I did magazine layout for a real-estate publication. The job was easy, but I hated it. I wanted to do comedy/video instead. I quit that job, then had a long-term freelance job in layout. That gig ended, and I decided to make my move, switch over to video and comedy, whatever it took. Then the economy went to shit ( Read more... )

I voted that you take the job, but I also vote that you and I somehow meet up and make a short film one day. Because I am stuck in a job I'm very qualified for although at heart I'm a film/theatre maker, and I want to start making movies again.

What do you say?

I, too, voted that you take the job. But I hope this job is really boring and intolerable, because it will really motivate you to look for something better that you will love.

But, in any event, good luck. I was recently lost two jobs in rapid succession, only to fall ass-backward into another job managing photo shoots (??) a few days later. I am only getting by through sheer chance.

It would be great to see you. What are you up to? Still in Chicago?

Did you know Michigan is like the new Hollywood or something?

I say take the job and keep it until I find you a new great one.

I did not know that.

Honestly, my InDesign isn't really up to speed (I used to work in Quark, but that's becoming obsolete) My plan is to master InDesign, then apply for a bunch of jobs like this, and take one if I get an offer. I've always been bad at applying for better jobs once I'm in a job, but I'll give it a shot. I just can't survive on the freelance video gigs I'm getting.

Michigan is offering tax incentives for film companies and so a bunch of studios are opening in the area. It's the big news this week because apparently it is going to turn around the Michigan economy.

Good luck finding something that works for you!

For the record, not taking the job was the correct answer. 77.8% of my pals are incorrect.
