Oh no, this wasn't happening.

We were still in the locker room celebrating our walk-off victory. Or more accurately, various players were congratulating Stephen on his game-winning hit. It was the bottom of the ninth, and we were down a run but had a runner on base. Stephen was the hero once again as he hit a monster home run to win the game for the whole team. The celebration on the field had been one thing, but the guys could be more intimate inside the confines of the locker room. Guys were putting their arm around Stephen, patting him on the back, giving him a squeezing hug. I even saw Snyder smack his ass. This was not good.

Currently I was by my locker, watching surreptitiously as Conor was talking to Stephen. Conor was standing suspiciously close to him, at least that's what my jealousy-filled head was telling me. Because that was definitely a wave of jealousy I felt coiling in my gut. I sneaked a glance at Stephen's face and saw him smiling in reaction to something Conor had said. I knew I didn't have the right to be jealous, I didn't own him. But I wanted to be the only one who could put that smile on Stephen's face.

That's it, I decided. I have to do something about this. So I took a deep breath and gathered up as much courage as I could muster, and walked over to them.

"Hey there," I said. Brilliant opening, huh?

Conor gave me a curious look and started to walk away. "Well, I'll catch you later then," Conor said. "Good job tonight." And as he said that he winked. He winked at Stephen. Conor was a great guy and all, and I never thought I'd feel the need to smack him. My possessiveness was definitely on in full force.

There was an awkward pause as Stephen looked at me, expecting me to say something first. I guess I kind of had to. "Congrats man," I said. He nodded, but it was apparent he didn't have anything to say back to me. I suddenly realized I wanted Stephen to talk to me. I wanted to hear that voice of his again. More than that, I wanted to touch him, feel his lips on mine. Pin him down to my bed and have my way with him. A thousand intimate scenarios of him and me together like that ran through my mind in that moment. Screw everything else, I thought to myself, he is all that matters to me.

"Would you, uh, like to come over later and celebrate? I mean... you could kick my ass at that game again if you want."

"Yeah, I'd like that," he said. He was smiling again, but this time it was directed towards me. I don't think I could have been happier if I had won the victory myself.
