Mozilla ate my homework

The file summary function on my Mozilla Thunderbird program became corrupted yesterday when I defragged the computer. Attempting to fix this today has deleted my entire Inbox without correcting any of the irritants (Get Mail button doesn't work without drop-down, automatic check for mail doesn't work at all, counters are getting into imaginary ( Read more... )

I had very similar and equally irritating problems with my Eudora yesterday. Sympathies. You'd think people would have worked this shit out by now, wouldn't you?

Usually I've found deleting the summary files (I presume you're talking about the .msf files) works, without deleting any of the emails in the folder. You don't have Norton Utilities protecting your Recycle Bin do you? If so, you may be able to find an earlier version of the Inbox file, if necessary.

If the Get Mail button & things are stuffed, maybe you should copy all your mail folders somewhere safe, uninstall Thunderbird and then reinstall it.

Don't go back to Outlook! It's evil ;)

Re Update: Well yay. I suppose the poor fing was confused. You've made me scared of defragging now :( But glad it's all worked out for the best.
