That is amazing! Wish I'd been in that street to watch it on the day. What a celebration!

The opening scene of the West Side Story movie was utterly breathtaking. Russ Tamblyn was a very special dancer (the first time I saw him, would you believe, he was playing Richard Widmark's kid brother in The Long Ships and Vikings don't dance, alas).

Drat, now I'm going to have to dig up my DVD of WSS, just to get that high again. Thanks for sharing.

I also wish I'd been there. I'm hoping they put it on at NYC's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts - which was built on the land where the location shots were done, after those apartment buildings were torn down.

I was also tempted to watch the musical again, but I lent the DVD to a friend last week.
