More about Brisbane

Some semi-random observations about the great city of Brisbane, largely expressed as a compare-and-contrast with Perth. So I'm a hick. Sue me.

Because I can't get on with my life until I've written it all down )

Is there anywhere in the world where traffic lights halt traffic that is travelling primarily parallel to pedestrians, other than Perth?

I can confirm there are no jellyfish in the Brisbane River. I became quite well acquainted with this body of water after rowing on it for a six month stint involving getting up at stupid hours of the morning.

It also smells.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of smell this time, particularly in the mangrove swamp. Last time I was there it was May and a bit whiffy, so perhaps the recent rains cleared things up a bit. I also didn't have to use bug spray once.

The last time I was in Brisbane was very short and with family. So not too much time to observe, save for the flying foxes in the tree outside the hotel window keeping us awake, and the invading rhino beetles in foyer - they were cute and hissed disturbingly like snakes when you tried to pick them up.

I did notice the plethora of hills and convenience stores in the CBD, however. :P

Bush foods property? Does your aunt do mail order?

Last time I checked they had standing orders with restaurants and no spare capacity. Were you after something in particular?

BTW Can you e-mail me with your full name? I don't want to resend your book without your full name (and preferably properly spelled).
