A new wireless lan card. Hey guys, do I have to just have a replacement, or can I get an upgrade? What I have is an Atheros K000049840 Where is the best place to either get a replacement, or a new one?

Before you go buy a new wireless card.

1) Is the problem connecting only to your home wireless or any wireless? (Aka if you take it to the local coffeeshop can you get online.)

2) What model of home router do you have and what is the wireless setup as? WPA? WEP? a/b/g/n?

The reason I ask is a lot of home routers had/have issues with firmware and early WPA implementations not liking to stay synced. Might all you need to do is update the router's firmware. (always update firmware from a wired connection not via wireless.)

If for #1, you cannot connect at another wifi location reliably, yes it's prolly the wifi card or it's antenna connection. If does connect, then do step 2.

I've had connection since late yesterday. Oddly, after re-seating the ethernet card, and closing all the openings; I found a silver screw on the couch. I never touch anything silver on the comp. It's bigger than all the black screws, with a phillips head. Can't find where it might be missing from. Never heard it rattling around, either. Is curious. Also never turned the machine upside down, for it to fall out.
