Getting less serious

Aug 06, 2008 10:52

Today I'm acting on doctor's orders - or, at least, the strong advice of a good, smart friend, who ordered me to STOP reading pregnany/birth articles that freak me out and cuddle up with Maya and some Regency romances instead! Since I spent yesterday afternoon feeling horribly freaked out by some worst-case-scenario baby health stories I read ( Read more... )

Yes, DO throw away those articles and get your paws on the latest Loretta Chase! (I think it's out. Is it out?).

And this trip to Bath--take notes for me, okay? Not that I'm writing anything set there, but tell me what I should go see in Sept.

Have fun!!

Alas, I've already read it! But it might be time to read it again. Total fun! :)

And I will definitely take notes for you! :)

You know your baby is healthy, or you'd be in for all kinds of tests and stuff. So....is it the birth? I am here to tell you that I had the world's worst birth experience, right down to being an hour from death, and then having abusive nurses let the IV suck by blood back up into the tube, but I survived it--and I got a healthy lovely baby. Bottom line is, you get out of there with a baby and you don't have to go back.

And the stuff they did to me is illegal now, so it won't happen to you!

You're so right - and as Patrick pointed out, even beyond all the blood tests, scans, etc, that we've passed so far with flying colors, just judging by the way the baby has been kicking and rolling almost non-stop, there's clearly nothing wrong with him/her! I just made the really silly mistake of reading lots of horror stories about babies born with hideous previously-undetected illnesses (the WORST possible thing to read about with pregnancy hormones flooding my system) and managed to get into a total panic, completely irrationally...sigh. I really, really hope I get my brain back after the baby comes out!

And ohhhhh, your birth experience sounds nightmarish...thank goodness for changed laws and happy, healthy babies at the end of even the worst ordeals!

Those fears are totally normal--I was reading Austen's letters again last night, and there's a reference (oblique) to them, in fact. And yop, you'll get your brains back...though the protective bond with the small one will be fierce, and never goes away.

One thing pregnancy has really made me realize is just how much influence hormones really do have on us...thank God there's a light at the end of the tunnel! (I keep hearing movie reviews from family and friends saying "ooh, [X] is a really good movie - but you'd better not watch it right now!" - and of course they're always right.)

It's my favorite thing about living in England! (Especially now that I've finally become sensible enough to start setting my novels in England instead of in Austria or Hungary!)
