My little quibble would be that Hermione's Dad uses her name nearly every time he speaks, which is a bit unrealistic overkill.

The tone is lovely, the last line is perfect and I liked the part at the beginning where she thinks about which piece of news is worse. As a geography student I also grinned at the line some voicing their opinions on Global Warming a little louder, as if they knew that was the reason for the strange weather anomalies, which is a great and succint description of the British public when it comes to dicussing more about the weather than the fact that it's raining.
