hi. since i was asked to check out an lj entry, i figured i may as well post and surprise any of you who still have me collecting dust on your f-lists
( Read more... )
yay! hope all is well with you and your clan...i'm going to try to wade through some folks' back entries (concentrating on the people i never see face to face).
Jesus, that's like my life story. We are secretly the same person.
Except, minus sim city, sub Civ III for Civ IV (it saved me some $$), and tack in a few other random crafts in the middle there...
The sewing machine has ended up being more useful than I ever imagined. Even if I haven't finished several of the projects I started during the early days of the sewing machine romance, I've been tailoring clothing that didn't ever fit very well, and now a friend in the performing arts has asked me to make 6 identical purses for use in her upcoming play - I developed a very simple purse design than I can whip up in a flash with my meager skills. Very satisfying! I highly advise buying up a few yards of pretty upholstery remnants from a local source or fabricguru.com. Upholstery fabric is so versatile - in a flash you can cover some pillows or a chair or make a purse or tote bag or a pouch for pens or bookcover or ANYTHING. It's very empowering :-)
i'm going to go shopping this weekend for fabric and a few tools, so maybe i'll post an update about "operation ottoman" once there is something to report!
i'm a bit too intimidated to start tailoring my clothes yet (which also means i'm very impressed that you are tailoring yours!) but i have darned a hole in a pair of jeans and mended a fraying hem; that was mildly empowering.
preceding knitting were: crochet (to the expressed delight, but possible chagrin of all the people who got scarves for christmas last year), baking, making glass beads (pretty!), pottery, mosaics (though my mosaic project was somewhat of a failure, i did tile an ex-boyfriend's bathroom), and stained glass (which yielded the best end result).
are you and your man coming down over 4th of july? if so, we'd like to see you!
