enf and i have safely returned from our whirlwind east coast tour de nostalgia...while there are many aspects of the trip that i'm interested in trying to write about, i'm going to first subject you to a somewhat lengthy rambling observation that, instead of editing, i will place behind a cut:

I'm wondering now whether maybe the town with the triangle of runways and the river appearing to end within it was Decatur, IL. If it was, we were probably more closely following US 36 (which also goes to Denver) than I-70.

yes...i think (from looking at satellite/map hybrids) that we were flying over illinois between 72 and 70 and that decatur, springfield and quincy were the cities i mentioned in my observations...also, between decatur & quincy 72 & 36 appear to be the same road. after colorado, i think we followed just out of sight of 70 and the striated, plateaued hills i was mesmerized by were the northern part of canyonlands national park in utah.
