“Come on,” Danny whined, bouncing from foot to foot. “M’freezing my bits to pieces, Nicky.”
“Nicholas,” Andrew called, halfway across the field, his frozen breath hanging in the air.
“C’mon, s’too late for that.”
In the distance, Tony and Andy were waiting with Doris, huddled like ravens against the sinking cold, their outlines blurred but their sentiment clear: It was time for cocoa, for warm dens, for quiet laughter and soft blankets. It was time to go home.
Nicholas’ snowman would have to stay unfinished for one more night.
