content labeling

I've been reading a lot of the warnings discussion that's been going around, and I knew from the beginning that I believe warnings are a good and necessary and kind tool to use. I'm not writing these days, but I have an entire archive of fic, and in light of that, I wanted to put forth some kind of note about my own warning practices. I wasn't sure ( Read more... )

See, I'm with you on the warning system. I think it's really just common sense as to what you should label and in what cases.

Also, having written Buffyverse fic, the underage sex thing is why all of the two NC-17 fic I wrote happened between a consenting adult and a vampire. It just worked better that way.

Yes! That's what I keep coming back to. It's just common sense and courtesy. Of course people are always going to have non-standard triggers that we won't necessarily know to warn for, but I think that the big ones, as listed above (as well as, having thought about this a bit more, suicide or self-injury or eating disorders)...well, you just can't go wrong by warning for those. And other things, I'm happy to handle on a case-by-case (or reader-by-reader?) basis.

And, oh, Buffyverse fic really does seem to come with its own set of questions. :-)

I think you do a great job warning people. You are sensitive to people's needs and you prepare people; it is our own free will to choose G and another day NC-17. In my opinion, carry on with business as usual. I always learn something new from you or see a topic from a perspective / life experience I have not lived. No pressure, just keep writing whatever comes to mind and I'll bet I'll keep reading. Enjoy the day!

Thank you! I've always tried to do my best, because I do think it's important to, as you say, be sensitive to people's needs and try to warn them of any difficult content that might be present in something I've written. I don't even write a lot of the common trigger issues, but I figured that all of this was still worth saying. And hopefully someday I'll have something new for you to read again. :-)

Enjoy your day, too!
