Leverage (still), a rec, and Dollhouse

My sweetie scarletts_awry wrote me quick and dirty Sophie/Nate for Valentine's Day. It's angry, hot, and not at all romantic, which I thought made it a perfect gift!

And you should check it out if you're so inclined, because it's fabulous.

As for Leverage, I am still starry-eyed in love with the show, perhaps even more so than I was the last time I commented ( Read more... )

I agree with you on Leverage. I thought "the Juror #6 job" was just awesome and so much fun. I love Parker and her anti-social ways. The whole cast just works so well together, they all pick up where the other leave off. It is such a well assembled show.

I am on the fence with Dollhouse, I was totally bored and flashed back to Alias more then once. I really think they tried to do too much in the pilot. They really only needed to establish what the Dollhouse was and how it worked. (I think like OZ did in ep 1 of s1, where they did "a day in the life" to establish the rhythms of the prison.) They did not have to go into the govt stuff as well, it just made things confusing. I ended up with more questions then I should at the end of a pilot. I will give it 2 more eps and then make a decision.

Leverage is just all kinds of wonderful and amazing. I haven't fallen this hard for a show in a very long time -- and it just keeps getting better, too.

They did try to do too much in the pilot for Dollhouse, and a lot of it felt like network interference. You're right, all they needed to establish upfront was the Dollhouse itself, and then all the rest could have followed later. As it was, it was just really overly complicated (and confusing), and I couldn't get a good sense of where they were actually trying to go with the show. I'm hoping that's just typical pilot issues and that the pacing etc. will improve in subsequent episodes, but I'm not sure if it will or not, and I'm still uncomfortable with how well the exploitation and gender politics angles will (or, rather, won't) be explored. So we'll see.

It reminded me of the axiom.. when you get dressed for an event and you are heading out the door, take off one accessory. Then you will be all set.

They just needed to take one (or 2) subplots out, with a complicated story, you can confuse people with too much, or you can keep it simple and add layers as time goes on, and this was a show that should have taken the conservative approach.

I have not seen anyone who likes it, and sadly at this point.. they have to trust fans to come around, or this will be yet another canceled show.

Hee, yes! The "take off one accessory" thing is a perfect metaphor. They would have done well to follow that advice and lose a couple of subplots.

They also could have lost that weird boxing scene that they kept cutting to during the first scene with the FBI guy. Because I couldn't tell if that was actually happening and when it was taking place and what it had to do with the other scene, or if it was supposed to be Symbolic of something or other.

I kept tilting my head to one side the whole time, the way cats do when something confuses them. Which is just *sad*.

Yay Leverage! I think I haven't stated that explicitely yet. I love this show. (And I really don't understand how anyone could be sceptical about Gina Bellman) It's gonna be the finale already? Aw, I hoped the season would be longer. But I'm so happy that they're coming back for a second one, too.

I love Leverage so much (as is probably obvious by now). It's a wonderful show, and I'm also crazy about both Sophie and Gina Bellman. It's too bad that it's such a short season, but after watching last night's episode I'm really, really glad that it's a 13-episode season and not a 12-episode one. I've also heard that next season will be longer by two, for a total of 15, which I'm happy about!
