happy-making things, & maybe potential posts

Jul 20, 2008 20:08

There have been several things that have made me happy lately, some of which I really, really need to make posts on at some point:

  • Poppy Z. Brite's Liquor novels

  • Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely, and good YA fiction in general

  • The Dark Knight. I'm not going to see it until scarletts_awry gets here in a few weeks, and then we are going to see it TOGETHER YAYZ, but ( Read more... )

books, batman, eureka, made of win!, squee, pushing daisies, buffy, the middleman

God, I love Middleman. I noticed something odd early on, though. If you watch Criminal Minds, and close your eyes when you listen to HotBoss(!), he sounds exactly like Hotchner on CM. Tres weird.

And the supertitles are love. They're themed.

I need a Middleman icon too. New Eureka soon, yay!

Heh. I haven't seen enough CM to be able to catch the similarity between their voices, but that's really funny.

And, oh, I so love the themes for the supertitles. Nap time, hammer time!, snack time -- that was one of my favorites. I still need to find time to go icon-hunting, too.

The first ep of S3 of Eureka has shown up on my DVR recording list! Just one more week to go.

Hi sweetie! So glad to hear you're loving the show. In my completely unbiased opinion, it only gets better from here on out. :)

We should do a weekend lunch again soon. Don't suppose you'll be at Comic Con?

I can't wait to see what happens next! And I can't wait to get home tonight and watch last night's episode.

I will not be at ComicCon, alas, but we should definitely do a weekend lunch sometime soon.

I am glad you are finding things to be happymaking and shiny.

I had... interesting weekend. yessss. Lots of things. SRSLY. hah. (I found you shinys. WIN! You missed out food that you would have loved. Seriously.)

Did you see that iTunes has Watchmen animated comic? I so WANT to see the movie now. And more comic!

There is Eureka to be watched, BTW. (We converted Amy \o/)

I am trying really hard to find happy-making things. It's working sometimes. :-) And I'm pleased that you're looking forward to the Watchmen movie. The stills and the trailer look really, really good, although I'm trying not to get my hopes up yet.

(And you should read the Liquor novels, too.)

Am curious to hear about the food that I would have loved.

I like the idea of them putting out parts of the comic, even if it's not every little bit. Is a better way for people to start to understand the movie, where it's coming from. (and me to catch up on the stuff I didn't read) Digging the cast list too, and the trailer for it.

Guess will have to add them to giant list of to-be-read stuff.

Went to Bite of Seattle, had all sorts of stuff there, (Tom Douglas' Alley, samples GALORE, fresh spring rolls) dim sum at one of the best places in the international district, fresh sashimi from Uwajiamaya, brown sugar mochi, fresh lychee. (am in NEED of more lychee now. :-( )

Of course, the best part was a Seafair Pirate IN FULL COSTUME coming up to me at dim sum as he was leaving and asking me about my John Force shirt -- which, by its design, would only be known to a racing fan whose team it was from the front. (shiny, warm weather WOMEN'S TECH shirt... heee ( ... )

I really need to start watching Middleman.

What good YA books have you read lately? I just finished a fantastic one myself today (with Norse mythology in!) and it made me very happy after all the interesting but depressing history books I've been reading.

You do need to start watching Middleman! It's fabulous.

Oh, good recently-read YA books, let's see: the aforementioned Wicked Lovely, Charles de Lint's The Blue Girl, Francesca Lia Block's Dangerous Angels (total flashback to high school for me, but so worth it for the trippy magic realism version of L.A.), Peter Beagle's Tamsin. I have some other stuff in the to-be-read pile, too.

The book with Norse mythology sounds intriguing -- what's the title?

I love love love Tamsin. Between that and The Last Unicorn, Peter S. Beagle is definitely up there among my favourite authors.

It's called Runemarks, by Joanne Harris, and it's quite good. It does some very interesting things with the legends, plus I always love a well-written Loki.

Oh, I know what I had forgotten while we were on the phone--I haven't read Poppy Z Brite's Liquor novels, but I really want to.

I think you would really like them. They're just so...well, I should post about all the ways in which they're wonderful, but it's really just a great series all around.

I could probably be talked into lending you the first one so that you can see if you like them. Like, OMG, when you're here!

*halo*
